Half of read speed (500mbit/s) than write speed (1gbit/s)

  • Hey guys,

i got an unusual problem after restoring my OMV setup from backup.

    Setup as follows:

    CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G4560
    4GB of RAM
    Gigabit Ethernet
    4x 4TB in raidZ-1 (ZFS)

Array write speed Writing is around 400-500 MB/s
    Array read speed ~600-700MB/s
    tested with DD

During File Transfers from Windows to OMV using SMB the speed is ~110-115 MB/s = ~ 1gbit/s

vice versa the Transfer Rate is capped at ~55 MB/s = ~500mbit/s

Iperf started from my PC results:

    iperf -c 192.168.178.29
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 192.168.178.29, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 208 KByte (default)
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    [ 3] local 192.168.178.20 port 58419 connected with 192.168.178.29 port 5001
    [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
    [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 1.11 GBytes 949 Mbits/sec

iperf started from OMV following result:

    iperf -c 192.168.178.20
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 192.168.178.20, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.0 KByte (default)
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    [ 3] local 192.168.178.29 port 38512 connected with 192.168.178.20 port 5001
    [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
    [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 586 MBytes 491 Mbits/sec

Tests from other devices to OMV results in the same Speed. also directly connected devices were tested (crossover connection).

i dont think it's a SMB related issue, but i have no idea how to fix it.

    Update: UDP connection speed:

    PC to OMV:

    iperf -c 192.168.178.29 -u -b 1000M
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 192.168.178.29, UDP port 5001
Sending 1470 byte datagrams, IPG target: 11.76 us (kalman adjust)
UDP buffer size: 208 KByte (default)

    OMV to PC:

    iperf -c 192.168.178.20 -u -b 1000M

UDP buffer size: 208 KByte (default)
    ------------------------------------------------------------

    [ 3] Server Report:
    [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 1.00 GBytes 862 Mbits/sec 0.015 ms 0/732771 (0%)

UDP connections seem to be impacted by around 10%
