Installing OMV 3.0.59 should enable the backports repo and the 4.8 kernel should show up in updates.

Today i was installation completely new.
    Debian Jessie netinstall.
I use the guide from votdev Install OMV3 on Debian Jessie

After this i used http://omv-extras.org/joomla/index.php/guides to install the dmv-extra repo.

So i'm still up to date to 3.0.59.
    I can't update anything more.

    Edit:
Also try the same in a omv vm, but there ist also the same problem.
    And the same error message.

    Edit2:
    OMV-extras is shown as 3.4.16

You don't have the backports repo enabled. Try:

    omv-mkconf apt
    apt-get update

Then see if the kernel is in the updates tab.

It should have enabled with the upgrade to 3.0.58 or 59. Not sure why your system didn't. This is a core feature of OMV and not omv-extras now. So, there is nothing to do in omv-extras.

Now the kernel was under Update Management.
It is a little bit strange that also in the vm is the same error.
    Or the same behavior.

The last time in Dezember where i installed omg it was at 3.0.58 and there was no problem.

Just looked at the code and it only executes the omv-mkconf apt if you upgrade from a pre 3.0.59 version. If you install 3.0.59, it doesn't execute the command. @votdev

Bug is a strong word. I would say minor issue since this only affects people who don't use the OMV install ISO and if you were able to install with the 3.16 kernel, you don't have to have the 4.8 kernel to function.

Backports is enabled in 3.0.59. If you installed 3.0.58 and upgraded to 3.0.59, it would enable backports. If you install 3.0.59 to start, there is no upgrade and therefore, backports would not be enabled.

No need to add it to a guide. It should be fixed in 3.0.60.

No need to post twice. There is no greyhole plugin for OMV 3.x.

  • Hi All,

can someone explain me how I can install backport kernel on omv 3.0 ?
I read that now the option is not in omv-extra but directly in omv-core feature but where ? I can't find it

if I list the repository in /etc/apt/sources.list.d, I can see the backport repo :

    Code
    more openmediavault-kernel-backports.list
    deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie-backports main contrib non-free

But I see nothing in OMV web interface.
