Externe Festplatte an USB Steckkarte

  • Hallo

I am in the exact same condition since the last system upgrade.
I have an HP Microserver Gen8 with an external disk that has always been connected to the USB3 for backup purposes.
I restarted the system after the last upgrade and the Microserver wouldn't start up anymore as the boot process was hanging on the mount of the external disk, even manual intervention didn't help to solve the issue, it seemed like the external device was suddenly unresponsive.
I've then run a full cleanup of the external disk and I also ran a surface check and no error was found. I then recreated the partition of the disk and its filesystem and I reattached the disk to the USB3 port, still dead.
At that point I stumbled into your post and I gave a try to switch from USB3 port to USB2 and now it works.
Still I can't figure out what the root cause of the problem is, the only thing I can think of is that USB3 ports get handled through xhci_hcd while USB2 ports use ehci-pci, but that would lead to a kernel issue...
