"shared folder" deletion

  • Hello,

I want to change the name of an SMB/CIFS share. SMB shares appear to take their names automatically from the OMV Shared Folder name. I think this means I need to delete the Shared Folder and recreate it with the name I want. The folder I want to share is on my RAID array and contains terabytes of valuable archived files.

Can I delete an OMV Shared Folder without affecting the folder stored on my RAID drive?

The Delete button offers two options "Shared Folder" or "Shared Folder + Contents". The first option would seem to be what I want but I want to make sure.

    Thanks,

    Pete

  • I just did an experiment to test this. I created a junk folder to see if I could share it and then delete the Shared Folder without affecting the files. Yes, the "Shared Folder" option on delete does that.

    Thanks

  • SMB shares appear to take their names automatically from the OMV Shared Folder name.

That´s the default behavior, I assume. But when share is created it should be possible to change the name.
