How about OMV support ?

Grab meveric's Debian Stretch for it and install OMV on top. His image most probably misses optimized IRQ redistribution, automagic UAS blacklisting of problematic USB3 disks and the other 'OMV on ARM' tweaks but OMV should be quite performant on S922X even without optimizations.

Useful? How to install OMV on Debian is covered by documentation and essentially all that's necessary to run OMV on any SBC is missing there (especially installing OMV Extras + flashmemory plugin to reduce wear on SD card / eMMC)
Even on meveric's Debian image I would try to use the armbian-config variant:
And then "Install OMV". This will end up with an optimized OMV install (most probably still missing: IRQ redistribution since this is stuff the base image should take care of).
Addendum: 'optimized' OMV install (via armbian-config) or not can also make a huge difference wrt NAS performance: installing omv 4 on odroid-xu4 fails

What do you imagine the performance difference would be like running OMV on top of Debian, as opposed to running the specially built odroid images (even with the armbian-config optimisation as you suggest)?
I know the N2 is still new, but is there an OMV image for the N2 in the works?
Thinking about my first OMV build, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

No idea, that's why I asked. But if you check the links in post #5 above you can see the difference might be quite huge (there you can also study what the optimized OMV installation routine does in detail).

Nope.

30~50 MB/s vs. +100MB/s.
