SMB shared folders showing in apps but not File Explorer Win 10

  • flmaxey guide

Before going through the above flmaxey guide I am wondering if the guide will have any affect upon the following - After PC sleeps overnight or sometimes only for 4-6 hours Win10 Pro v1809 PC loses visibility of Network PC's and SMB shares [in File Explorer]. HOWEVER, they remain visible when saving, save as, opening, etc, within an app (example - WORD).

    Any comments?

Have been through every internet solution except for flmaxey's. Thought I'd ask.

    Thanks, Kai

Current OMV5.3.4-1 OPERATING ENVIRONMENT: ASRock AB350Pro4 Mobo, AMD A8-9600 Bristol Ridge Quad-Core 3.1 GHz, 16GB Ram, Kingston A400 120GB SSD, WD Blue 4TB HDD

Backup OMV5 OPERATING ENVIRONMENT: Windows 10 Pro 64bit (always latest build) Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz 8GB ram; OMV 5.0-amd64 Linux Debian running virtual via VirtualBox v5.2.22
DATA Backup - Two sets of identical backups using GoodSync 1-way backup onto 2 external drives.

  • . . . then OMV is using wsdd.

I just now applied your instruction to turn off the local. Will see what happens. Hate to ask this but - what is wsdd and what bearing does it have on the solution?

Web Service Deployment Descriptor, in essence it allows Windows 10 to access SMB shares using Web Services, it will also mean that your OMV server will show under File Manager -> Network.

  • I just came back to the PC after a 3 hour break. Again lost connection. I am going to restart the PC and see if that ends up making a difference. Can't recall if I restarted the PC after turning off the Local Master Browser. Anyway, will try again.

  • At this point in time it appears as though everything might be okay. I did notice that when I opened File Explorer and then clicked on Network it took about 1-2 minutes to refresh / scan the network; then the drives showed up. Will keep checking to see if it holds.
