Space usage matches resource limit

  • Hello Guys,

my omv sends me the following message on each system start:

    Resource limit matched Service fs_dev_disk_by-uuid_7d257ec6-663e-4f38-9e20-3421eb1da779

    Date: Fri, 11 Oct 2013 12:33:52 +0200
    Action: alert
    Host: server
Description: space usage 90.3% matches resource limit [space usage>80.0%]

    Your faithful employee,
    monit

How can i solve this problem?

    OMV - 3.2 backport kernel - Intel Atom D525 - Zotac NM10-DTX - 4gb Ram - 3 TB Wd Red

  • I guess that this is your system drive?
How much space has your system drive?

Can login via ssh and give me the output of the following commands?

    Code
    df -h
    cd /var/log/
    ls -lSh . | head -5

    Greetings
    David

  • Also what kind of drive and size is being used for the OMV system drive?

  • That's the output:

    root@server:~# df -h
Dateisystem Size Used Avail Use% Eingehängt auf
    /dev/sda1 141G 1,7G 132G 2% /
    tmpfs 2,0G 0 2,0G 0% /lib/init/rw
    udev 2,0G 128K 2,0G 1% /dev
    tmpfs 2,0G 0 2,0G 0% /dev/shm
    tmpfs 2,0G 4,0K 2,0G 1% /tmp
    /dev/sdb1 1,4T 1,2T 132G 90% /media/7d257ec6-663e-4f38-9e20-3421eb1da779
    root@server:~# cd /var/log/
    root@server:/var/log# ls -lSh . | head -5

Looks like my data drive is running out of space. My System drive is a 160 gb hdd.

  • Well, then you should expand your space to solve the problem ;)

How does one expand the rootfs?

    Here is my usage report:

Same question here: How does one expand the rootfs?

Boot gparted live on the system you wrote the SD card with and use gparted to resize the partitions. Either that or figure out why you are filling the OS partition.

  • Probably not needed to be said, but I am new to this. I do not mind jumping in and getting wet. GParted Live looks to be a graphical tool, so I question my ability to run sudo apt-get install gparted and run it on my OMV install.

I would prefer to isolate the cause. I am running omv 3.0.59 erasmus with developer extras. How much space should I be using?

No, you can't use gparted on your running install.

These two things don't use much. I have a system running on an 8 GB usb stick that has been running for almost two years and it uses 2.3 GB. It really depends on what you do with the system.

  • Hi, I also have the same problem. I have used a 8GB Sd card on Banana pi m1 with OMV. I get the same message in my system logs.

    Oct 5 03:28:26 bananapi monit[1187]: 'fs_srv_dev-disk-by-id-ata-ST4000DM000-1F2168_Z301XBJY-part1' space usage 85.8% matches resource limit [space usage>85.0%]
Oct 5 03:28:26 bananapi monit[1187]: 'rootfs' space usage 89.2% matches resource limit [space usage>85.0%]

    When I check the filesystems
    It shows two mounted drives
    /dev/mmcblk0p1 ext4 total 57.97, used 24.07 MiB
    /dev/mmcblk0p2 btrfs total 863.00, used 547.12 MiB

I’m new to omv, please can you explain why the SD size was shrunk down from 8GB, and help me if there is a way to fix.
I used “Etcher” to create the bootable sd card. Running OMV 3.0.87 (Erasmus)
