Need help for BIOS-MOD for HP N40L / N54L

  • Hi,

I want to do the BIOS MOD as described here:

    http://homeservershow.com/hp-p…dification-revisited.html

I followed the instructions but wondered why I don't have hidden files ? ?

In Figure 6 + 7 you can see : kernel.sys and other linux files although the autor mentioned that he had cre-
ated the bootable USB key with a Windows System. Where comes the linux files from ?

My files are ( hidden files switched visible - but there is no difference, hidden on/off shows the same ) :

    Autoexex.bat
    command.com
    config.sys
    ibmbio.com
    ibmdos.com
    kyb.exe
    O41072911.rom
    readme.1st
    readme.txt
    rev_hist.txt

Before I'll install the BIOS-MOD I would be sure that I have a correct boot USB media.

How looks your bootable USB media ? ?

    THX in advance

  • As I do not have a Windows PC around to do it exact like the way described (formatted via Terminal on mac etc.) I used the exact same guide to mod my BIOS. (N40L)

Actually the only thing you really have to care about is:

    Zitat

Rename o41072911mod.rom to o41072911.rom. Replace the file O41072911.ROM on your second USB Key created by HP with o41072911.rom – (IMPORTANT: the ROM file begins with the letter Oh, NOT the number Zero – this simple error has been the genesis of many crash and burns during attempted Flashs.

So just make sure that you have done this correctly. Check it twice!

    THX for your comment.

Is it realy necessary to use a lower case O = o instead of the upper case O
that was generated by the util HPQUSB in O41072911.ROM ? ?

Or doesn't that matter, bcs if I look at the flash.bat :

    kbd /"flash O41072~1.rom -r 100000,10000 -r 1e0000,10000;q"

    there is an uppercase O
