nginx ports driving me nuts!

  • ok,

so I have installed nginx in kralizec. the plugin is working.

I have created one new server which was originally running on port 85 (and worked). I changed the port to port 1977 and the strangest thing is happening.

when i access the webaddress:1977 from a browser the page starts to load (ie i get progress) then the port changes to port 85 (the old port) and i get page not found!!!

has anyone seen this before ?

    thanks

    Dan.

Let me see if I can duplicate it. Just finishing a fresh VM.

no, but looks like a Browser cache problem, please clear cache or use other PC never used before to access old page in port 85 to be sure.

ok, tried the same address from my phone (never used on this site before) and the new port still bounces straight to the old port in the address bar (i.e 1977 redirects to 85)

    thanks

nginx shouldn't be redirecting. What pages do you have in that server?

Is it possible that there is still an open connection that is reused? I remember that Apache does not close open connections if you reload the configuration. Maybe this happens to nginx, too.

how would i ensure any old connections are killed (without a full reboot)?

    service nginx restart

Tried changing the port multiple times and could not duplicate your issue. I didn't reboot or restart nginx.

  • tried restarting the service and rebooting the server ... it worked again briefly and then failed (port switching again) ... I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin to no avail.

oddly, when i reinstalled the plugin i was able to install wordpress (the 5 minute method) and it worked for about 20 minutes then I logged in from a fresh browser window and it failed again ... back to port switching...

    very frustrating..

Uninstall the plugin and just install the wordpress plugin. Does that work?

can the wordpress plugin run on a different port or does it work on a subdirectory of the default root ?
