Why does this forum does not have ssl-support? It would be nice, if nobody could see my username, password, what I read/write.

Because a wildcard SSL certificate which can be used for multiple subdomains is really expensive.

I know, but "forums.openmediavault.org" just needs a normal certificate – even for free (https://www.startssl.com/?app=40) -
The last time I checked startssl was not in the trusted CAs of the Internet Explorer/(Chrome).
PS: I had one SSL Cert from them too...

Seems to be included by time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StartCom#Trustedness). My browsers also have no problems with it. -

A wildcard certificate is about 400 Euro. To much for a hobby project. If someone donates one I will install it. But I have to buy the cert from my hoster.
-
OMG, why do you have to buy it from your hoster? That is a ripoff. You can get the wildcard ones from godaddy for like 135 dollars US.
No, I see the one to protect unlimited subdomains is $269.99
Answer me on why you have to get it through your hoster?????????

I find some CA's offering Certs for domain plus up to 3 subdomains for much less, 75 bucks.
The most important thing is to secure is the forum.

@votdev It is maybe to much for you. But not me. If you can pay a reasonable price I pay the whole thing for a year to get us started. If you have to go 400 Euros plus we see if members will help put up the other half. At 200 Euros we only need 40 member to donate 5 Euros each to reach the other half. Then we can see if this is hobby project.
Is this your hosting company???
