OMV doesnt detect Onboard Network Card nor does it accept the correct driver

  • Hello.

I am currently setting up a home-server with OMV using newer haswell-based HW.

The board I am using is the Asus H87I-PLUS. It uses an Intel® I217 network card (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H87IPLUS/specifications/) for which the driver is called "e1000e" (https://downloadcenter.intel.c…l_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=15817)

During the isntallation process OMV tells me that my NW-Card couldnt be recognized and that I should pick a driver from the given list.
the e1000e driver is listed. However when I choose it the page flickers for a sec and nothing happens.

    Help would be much appreciated.

The newer haswell i217 driver isn't part of the kernel on the install image. I recommend installing Debian Wheezy 7.6 using the netinst image (uncheck all options when asked for packages) and then install OMV on top of that by doing the following:

    Code
    echo "deb http://packages.openmediavault.org/public kralizec main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openmediavault.list
    apt-get update
    apt-get install openmediavault-keyring postfix
    apt-get update
    apt-get install openmediavault
    omv-initsystem

Okay. So I downloaded Debian 7.6 and put it on a USB stick. During the installation the network could'nt be configured again...

You will need a temporary network card until you can install the backports 3.14 kernel then.

Probably not since the utilities for connecting to wireless aren't there. An old 100mb card will work if you have one.
