[Raspberry Pi] Restrictions for logins?

    • Offizieller Beitrag

    Two things...

1 - Why are you trying to use the pi user?

2 - Why don't you reset the password of the pi user when logged in as root? passwd pi If you used the image from sourceforge, I think I set the pi password to openmediavault.

  • 1 - they always say to not use the root user for every day jobs ;)
2 - I did it exactly - logged as root, then changed password for pi and then - it works ok, I can login as pi. BUT it works only, when I first login as root.
When I start new console session - it is impossible to login as pi - see the picture I attached.

    p.s.
Wow, what a quick answer - like a light speed, I have to fasten my seat belts ;)

1 - That makes sense. I recommend making a new username though.

2 - The pi user must be set for nologin. If you go into the OMV web interface and go to users, you can change the shell to bash. Then you will be able to login.

  • Yeah raspbian has sudo etc. enabled by default, at least thats how it is done with raspbmc which is based on raspbian.

In that case, I would just delete the user. I never tried using that user after installing OMV and before making the image. I will delete the user in the next image.

    Not to login locally.

  • Thats right Mr. tkkb! Adding it to group ssh makes it working :)
    Solved :)
    Thanks a lot!

    P.S.
Please do not delete the "pi" user from the image - for Raspberry Pi fans that user is fundamental :)

I thought you were trying to login locally. Makes sense now.

As for deleting the pi user, I still think it needs to go. The idea of OMV is to not use the command line all the time. If people start using OMV and using ideas written for standard Raspbian, they are most likely going to do something that conflicts with OMV and break it. A lot of guides for Raspbian will have you edit config files. OMV will write over these changes.
