Hello Fox_exe,
did you have more technical information about the WD MyCloud hardware?
How big is the system partition?
Did you can please show "parted -l"?
Can i use all omv-extra-org plugins? Can i use a wlan stick (wifi) at the usb port?
Betrachtungen:

Die WD My Cloud 2 TB kostet heute 129,- Euro.Und nicht zu verachten, kein lauter lärmender Lüfter!
Schöne Grüße

Hallo, wer nutzt ein WD My Cloud NAS mit OMV und berichtet über seine Erfahrungen?
-
Only English and Russian questions please.
About WDMC:
- All useful info available in my Google drive folder
- Bootloader dont support USB or any other boot devices. Only internal HDD and network boot via TFTP.
- Kernel sources available, so possible to build any drives/modules. (Kernel version - 3.2.68)
- Due compatability reasons i dont modify root partition, so we have only 2GB (Need move DLNA Cache and other data to Data partition. Info - in g.drive)
- About "Root partition as data partition": OMV thinks that is on a separate disk (MD raid = dedicated/virtual HDD).
- System layout same as default WD's layout.
- Sleep mode partial support (Installed ramlog and changed samba boot script). But need disable statistics or move all caches to ram.

Hello Fox_exe,
can please show "parted -l" from your OpenMediaVault WD My Cloud system?
Did you use OpenMediaVault 1.19 in your OpenMediaVault WD My Cloud system?
Thank you.

Thanks for this Fox_exe,
Being able to run omv on my mycloud is just awesome - seems to work really well on your 1.17 build
-
All OMV builds can be updated to latest version via webgui or apt-get.
Disk layout and other info available in Google.Drive folder. (See in Developing folder).
Also i start porting Synology DSM to WDMC! (Kernel and initrd almost completed)

So I've installed OMV using omv_1.16a and all went smoothly, I can use OMV from the web gui, and I have been able to login via SSH and terminal on my Mac.
Now my problems start as I have very limited experience with Linux,
I was going to follow Fox_exe instruction 'Optional: Connect to SSH again and run post-install script "/run_me_after_reboot.sh" for few fixes.'
but this is what I get when trying to select the directory
root@MyCloud:~# cd /DataVolume/shares/Public/omv
-bash: cd: /DataVolume/shares/Public/omv: Нет такого файла или каталогаObviously I don't understand this at all, how do I change the language to English?
How to I select the appropriate sub-folderI also seem unable to connect to mycloud through (i) OSX Finder (smb) although it displays and (ii) another file browser using FTP or SFTP
How do I get to data volumes in OMV, in OSX etc.?----
UPDATE: language problem resolved using ChangeLanguage but I'm not sure how to get my existing (WD MyCloud) data volumes visible in OMV or using any other client.
I can't connect to mycloud using OSX Finder or other client; admin/mycloud (or root) isn't recognised
SSH via terminal is OK.
OMV gui is OKHere's my lsblk output:
root@MyCloud:~# lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 2.7T 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 1.9G 0 part

├─sda7 8:7 0 1M 0 part
└─sda8 8:8 0 2M 0 part

Any advice on what to do next would be gratefully received
-
root@MyCloud:~# cd /DataVolume/shares/Public/omv
There is no /DataVolume anymore. Use /media/*GUID* (where UUID is your hdd (partition) ID)About samba - Go to WebGUI and configure samba's shares.

Thanks for your reply. I don't really understand what to do now - sorry for my ignorance, I am new to Linux
I can see sftp://mycloud.local/media/e0fcf183-81a7-49b0-88b8-c898f6a6144d but there is no content other than a shortcut to sftp://mycloud.local/media/e0fcf183-81a7-49b0-88b8-c898f6a6144d/minidlna
Have I lost all the data that was on the MyCloud prior to installation of OMV? -
-
OK, please ignore my previous post _ I'm now making some progress with OMV and have found my original shares.
What I haven''t been able to do so far is activate mini DNLA - it stalls when running from the gui.
This is what I get when trying via SSH ...root@MyCloud:~# apt-get install minidlna

root@MyCloud:~#-- UPDATE
I've installed Plex and will see how that goes -
I am also getting an error message when connecting via SSH
Warning: the RSA host key for 'mycloud.local' differs from the key for the IP address '10.0.1.13'

What should I do here?
Just ignore or replace/delete old ssh keys.About Minidlna - Omvextras.org have new version of minidlna, but not all dependencies for hem.
Fix 1: Temporary add Jessie repo
Fix 2: Disable omvextras repo, install old minidlna (from wheezy), then add omvextras repo again and install plugin.
FIx 3: Report about this issue to omv-extras.org and wait fix. -

Hi,
fistly thanks for your work for WDMC. Now my question. I'm using fresh OMV 1.17 and I would like to use Plex. Without Plex OMV is quite stable and fast (much better than original WD firmware), but if I install Plex (through plugin option in OMV), NAS will stop communicate after a while. After instalation's reboot there is quite high CPU and memory usage (while sda4 with all data is unmount so no media scan I guess), I can log to Plex server or do stuff in OMV, but no matter what I do, after while NAS just stops communicate (webgui and also ssh). If I unplug it, it won't boot again. Is this normal? Is the hardware just to weak for Plex server? Is there any way to use Plex on WDMC (just streaming, no transcoding)?
Oh and is DSM better than OMV for WDMC? -
