HD compatibilty

  • Having tried OMV in virtual box and then on an Asus eeepc 701, I was convinced that it was what I wanted for setting up a NAS. Without putting much thought into compatibility, I ordered a box full of parts, for a new dedicated NAS.

Unfortunately I was not aware that OMV would not see any of my nice new 2TB Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARX drives. After a couple of days trying various ideas and OS's, It eventually dawned on me to install OMV to a 2GB flash drive, then upgrade the kernel to 3.2.0 with backports. Then I took a snapshot of the upgraded OMV, using remastersys, and burn to a CD, which I used to install onto one of my nice new hard drives.

Now it seems to be running, though I haven't managed to ssh into it since installing onto a hard drive. I'm now setting up my four storage HD's into a RAID10, so I guess that makes me a paranoid in a hurry.
