(encrypted) disks not mounting after restart; fstab issue

  • Hey everyone,

    I rebooted my VM today and my disks won't mount automatically or via the webinterface. The latter produces this error:

    Code
    Error #6000:
    exception 'OMVException' with message 'Failed to mount '642ed7ef-8ce2-4d58-96fa-f1c3eb5a63ef': mount: no such partition found' in /usr/share/openmediavault/engined/rpc/filesystemmgmt.inc:919
    Stack trace:
    #0 [internal function]: OMVRpcServiceFileSystemMgmt->mount(Array, Array)
    #1 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpcservice.inc(125): call_user_func_array(Array, Array)
    #2 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc.inc(79): OMVRpcServiceAbstract->callMethod('mount', Array, Array)
    #3 /usr/sbin/omv-engined(501): OMVRpc::exec('FileSystemMgmt', 'mount', Array, Array, 1)
    #4 {main}

    However I can mount the disks just fine via SSH:

    Code
    mount /dev/mapper/luks-disk /root/shortcuts/disk

    In this case /root/shortcuts/disk is just a link to the corresponding folder within /media/.

    I looked at /etc/fstab and the part belonging to OMV appeared rather messy, all but one disk where put into one line. However, while I am typing this post all of OMV's entries disappeard from /etc/fstab.
    Edit: The "weird looking" entry was created from aufs, I deleted pool while looking for errors.

    The filesystem entries in /etc/openmediavault/conf.xml are still there and appear to be normal.

    Does anyone have an idea what happened, and can I force OMV to recreate /etc/fstab?

    Can you post your fstab?

  • Sure

    Edit: It is possible that the fstab entries were never created since I installed Kralizec about a week ago. I did a fresh install, not an upgrade. This was my first reboot since then.
    Edit2: I believe that aufs caused this issue. I had a valid fstab on 09/30, and on the next day all of the OMV entries were replaced by aufs. I replaced my fstab from backup (gotta love BackupPC :) ). However my original questions remain: Can I force OMV to recreate /etc/fstab?
    Edit3: It's definately aufs causing the problem. I created a new pool using all my drives and now my fstab has changed. Now it is possible that aufs is working as intended, though I fail to unterstand it :)

    Post your working fstab and after aufs. Aufs will make two entries in fstab for each pool. I have never heard of an issue where aufs caused an issue with fstab or mounting.

  • Exactly, aufs creates two fstab entries. However, in my case, it also replaces *any* regular fstab entries from OMV.

    My normal fstab:

    After I created a aufs pool containing some of my shares:

    It is an OMV bug introduced in 1.0.24 - bug report here
