plex enabled but not running

  • Hi,

I have noticed that plex is enabled in services but the running symbol is red. service plexmediaserver status shows that it is not running, even after running service plexmediaserver start

No idea why this is happening.

Any help is much appreciated (as always)

    ;)

  • Okay so I have completely reinstalled omv, updated, installed extras plugin, mounted drive, installed plex plugin and enabled it........... still bloody red!!!

This is getting infuriating and I cant see why I am the only one with this issue.

Just installed in a VM and it works fine. The client tab doesn't work unless you install openmediavault-links and enable the media tab. What system are you installing on?

    omv 7.0.4-2 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.10 | compose 7.1.2 | k8s 7.0-6 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

Please try ctrl-shift-R and read this before posting a question.

Please put your OMV system details in your signature.
Please don't PM for support... Too many PMs!

  • The client tab is a page where you can view the plex web manage page. It will appear when you enable it in the settings. Your version of OMV is ok. That is not your problem.

Again, what is output of the start command I gave above.

  • Ok here is the output you asked for:

    Code
    root@GLaDOS:/# service plexmediaserver status
It seems that Plex Media Server isn't running (no process found).
    root@GLaDOS:/# /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver start
    Starting Plex Media Server: done
    root@GLaDOS:/# service plexmediaserver status
It seems that Plex Media Server isn't running (no process found).

BTW, I do know what the client tab is (I had a bit of a brain fart!)

    Cheers

  • We need to see his. There may be issue with plexmedia server folder being moved to a data drive or the plex user's home directory change.

    /media/a6e632c0-fe42-44fb-944b-7405137843b4/plexmediaserver/

Give me output of the stat command:
    cd /media/a6e632c0-fe42-44fb-944b-7405137843b4
    stat plexmediaserver

  • Code
ii openmediavault-plexmediaserver 1.0 all OpenMediaVault Plex Media Server plugin
ii plexmediaserver 0.9.9.16.555-50cd0c3-debian amd64 Plex Media Server for Linux
  • Ok, good. Soz, I'm slow but too much going on. Give me a minute.
    I'm coming dude.... hold on...

    usermod -d /media/a6e632c0-fe42-44fb-944b-7405137843b4/plexmediaserver -m plex
    etc/init.d/plexmediaserver start

  • Code
    root@GLaDOS:/media/a6e632c0-fe42-44fb-944b-7405137843b4# usermod -d /media/a6e632c0-fe42-44fb-944b-7405137843b4/plexmediaserver -m plex
    usermod: no changes

    root@GLaDOS:/media/a6e632c0-fe42-44fb-944b-7405137843b4# /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver start
    Starting Plex Media Server: done

    root@GLaDOS:/media/a6e632c0-fe42-44fb-944b-7405137843b4# service plexmediaserver status
It seems that Plex Media Server isn't running (no process found).

    Hmmmmm ?(

  • That is weird. It is like your folder is already moved. But you gave me stat command of that location earlier and it said nothing was there????

    Try this again:
    cd /media/a6e632c0-fe42-44fb-944b-7405137843b4
    stat plexmediaserver
