After reboot - 2 HDD are reversed (random mount)

  • Hi the best residents of the forum!
I have 2 HDD: IDE and SATA (do not laugh, please .. this is a test server)
    I turn on the server
    SATA - sda
    IDE - sdb

The server worked .. after reboot - they changed:
    SATA - sdb
    IDE - sda

I need to SATA was always SDA (there are two sections - the system and important data) and IDE - so that was sdb (there purely torrents) ...

How can I fix the mount point hdd?

Thanks again for the help! Very few of these forums, where you can quickly otveayut ..
At the time, I was the administrator of a large Russian warez forum (50,000 unik per day) .. I know how hard it is =)

    omv 1.0.29 kralizec | 64 bit | 3.2.0-4 kernel | omvextrasorg 1.0.13 (Sorry for my bad english...)

  • Why do you need them in that order?, mounted filesystems are addressed in modern linux by UUID or label. You can check that mapping with

    blkid

Are you having troubles with your shares?

troubles with your shares? - no.. i create symlink (hdd1 and hdd2)..=)

i check blkid - all good...
    =====================
Probably affects long work with windows servers)
Times it does not carry nikakaih problems - then we will not waste time and nerves =)
    Thank you again!

    omv 1.0.29 kralizec | 64 bit | 3.2.0-4 kernel | omvextrasorg 1.0.13 (Sorry for my bad english...)

  • The sdX naming isn't reboot persinstantanymore since 3 debian versions or so... thus we use the uuid as shown in the blkid output.

  • After my OMV installation on my 4GB SSD system drive, it was sda and my data drive was sdb.
Now I added 2 USB-Sticks and after reboot my system drive is sdc and data drive is sdd.

    My fstab looks like this:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
    #
    # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
    # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
    # that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
    #
    # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    # / was on /dev/sda1 during installationUUID=cf38d2ea-5b5e-403e-bc06-38ca241d99cf / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
    # swap was on /dev/sda5 during installationUUID=5582d9ea-8731-4889-a755-1fc6f9ce2b13 none swap sw 0 0/dev/sdb1 /media/usb0 auto rw,user,noauto 0 0tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0
    # >>> [openmediavault]UUID=13adc991-d558-4a97-87b2-d8526e173209 /media/13adc991-d558-4a97-87b2-d8526e173209 ext4 defaults,nofail,user_xattr,noexec,usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,acl 0 2/dev/disk/by-uuid/C420194420193EBC /media/C420194420193EBC ntfs defaults,nofail 0 2UUID=d2ff1774-bd56-d001-1083-1774bd56d001 /media/d2ff1774-bd56-d001-1083-1774bd56d001 ext4 defaults,nofail,user_xattr,noexec,usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,acl 0 2/media/13adc991-d558-4a97-87b2-d8526e173209/Video/ /export/Video none bind 0 0
    # <<< [openmediavault]

    Output from blkid shows:

    /dev/sda1: UUID="C420194420193EBC" TYPE="ntfs"
    /dev/sdc1: UUID="cf38d2ea-5b5e-403e-bc06-38ca241d99cf" TYPE="ext4"
    /dev/sdd1: LABEL="1Platte2TB" UUID="13adc991-d558-4a97-87b2-d8526e173209" TYPE="ext4"
    /dev/sdc5: UUID="5582d9ea-8731-4889-a755-1fc6f9ce2b13" TYPE="swap"
    /dev/sdb5: UUID="d2ff1774-bd56-d001-1083-1774bd56d001" TYPE="ext4"

    Now i want
/dev/sdc1 to be /dev/sda1 and (maybe it is possible to label my system drive with "System")
    /dev/sdd1 to be /dev/sdb1

Can anyone please explain me, how to use the UUID in the fstab? I’m a Newbie to Linux.

    Thanks in advance!

  • The randomness of /dev/sdX was already there with Debian Lenny as far as I can remember. Thus, OpenMediaVault uses UUID explicity, because they don't change, and so you should use them too.

The SD Label isn't important, just nice-to-have if it is possible.

There is no particular reason why i want my system drive as sda, i just like it when it looks structured.

I don't even see how it's "nice to have".... I greatly prefer UUID's.
