Migrate FreeNAS 9.2.x ZFS to OMV

  • Hallo zusammen,

Ich würde gerne mein NAS in Suspens to RAM runterfahren.

    Besten Dank vorab.

    Gruß remet.

Energy savings should be very good due to newer drivers in most cases.

There are plugins for MySQL, pyLoad, and PXE. OMV uses a newer forked-daapd that might fix your problems.

A zfs plugin is in the alpha stages. When it is finished, I *think* it will recognize your existing pool.

  • thx for reply...
sounds very good. so i will give OMV a try.

ZFS Plugin .. Nice. so what do you think about the performance with OMV and ZFS plugin? should i wait till there is a stable release, or should i use mdam Raid?

From my testing on an older box with older drives, zfs speeds were about the same as my mdadm raid 5 array on my production server.

I would do testing in a VM. Once you feel comfortable with OMV, then maybe the zfs plugin will be closer to the testing phase. I have had no problems with the alpha testing so far. They say zfs on linux is production ready. If you are comfortable with it and are willing to wait just a little longer, I would stay with zfs.

Don't install it on real hardware. Enable the zfs repo in omv-extras and wget this deb. Then install using dpkg and apt-get -f install.

  • i come from freennas, and i'm still on it :(

so but now over christmas i have enough time maybe to switch to OMV. For me it doesnt matter if there is GUI Support for ZFS or not.
If its possible to Manage the ZFS Pool via Shell i'm fine.
So i'm fimilar with the Shell Linux etc.

so is it possible at the moment to run OMV with ZFS???
I think Debian is ready for this.
Keep in mind my System is not testing.

Can u help me to get it up and Running?
