    I currently have the USB Backup plugin installed and am trying to understand the best way to use it


    I want to backup my shares to my external USB drive, is it recommended to leave this drive plugged in 24/7?


    and will the plugin automatically backup the shares to the USB when it detects a change? How does it work exactly?

    The USB backup plugin executes the backup script if it detects that the assigned USB device is plugged in. It does this action ONLY when the device is plugged in. After the job has been finished the filesystem is unmounted, so the device have be safely unplugged.


    If you want to use scheduled backups the you should use a Rsync job.

    Can you rsync to an external USB drive given that it has no share on it?


    And if so, is it recommended to keep the USB drive plugged in and used in that way? Is it detrimental to the drive at all?
