New Set Up

  • Hi I am new to the forum and I am setting uo a hp N54L with OpenmediaVault.
I am using two existing 1TB drives full of folders from by QNAP, a new 2TB HDD and a 4TB HDD as a RAID.
Can I just plug in my existing 1TB drives, +2TB and set up the 4TB as a RAID5 without loosing the existing files from the QNAP, or will they be wiped when the drives synchronize?

Thanks for any help folks! 8o

QNAPs run Linux. So, I am fairly sure that you can use the drives with OMV. Try installing OMV on the box without the data drives and then plug the data drives in. If it recognizes them, you are ready to go. If not, no damage done.

Thanks, I have loaded OMV but there is no web based management ip address to log in via web browser, what might I have done wrong?

Was your machine connected to the Internet during install? You should have gotten a big red warning if your network connection was not detected.

    Log in as root.
    type ifconfig

You should see something like this.>

Inside the asterisks above, is your IP address.
