I love ipmi but most people don't have it. I have the second input on a monitor connected to one server. My RPi is nowhere near a monitor. I can still only imagine what happens when people forget their password...
-
That's what dropbox is for...
-
Passwords?? I wouldn't use dropbox. Maybe spideroak but not dropbox.
-
If it is in an encrypted container ??? I think it is fine.
-
A password to get a password??
-
Kinda like dual factor authentication..... Pain in the ass but it works. I do this with other information I don't trust in the cloud. I have to download containers, mount & use password.
PS- It is safer and more convenient than using a USB stick.
PPS- RPi 2 working well....

Personally, I think that data drive encryption is way more important than OS encryption. At least in my case, OMV knows some passwords of e-mail accounts and some ssh / openvpn keys etc. But that's nothing I couldn't change in a few minutes if the NAS gets stolen. On the other hand - and I think this is true for the most of us - the potential damage if some gains access to personal backups is devastating.
I'm far away from being an expert in this, but OMV making use of the ext4 encryption sounds like a great solution. Not only because it's probably easier to integrate into OMV than other tools but also in terms of retrieving the data from the drive using another system (in case the NAS itself fails).
-
I think that we should also consider encrypted backups as a lot of people back up to an external hard drive and then keep the backup offsite.
Ideally this should be an option for the USB Backup/synchronization plugin… -

I don't expect Volker to implement anything soon. But I think it is important for OMV to have encryption at some point.

Well, that this won't be implemented overnight is evident, but it would be nice to see that the developers are aware of the importance of this topic. As I recall, there has been a request in the bug tracker but with the end of TrueCrypt this ticket was closed. Should we open a new one?

http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/
Ubooquity or something similar for comics (now that we have a Mylar plug in)
Edit: I was able to get ubooquity to work with a little bit of hacking/kludging. It's autostarting from crontab and relies on java, and you have to do the administrator setup from IE and not Firefox/Chrome, but it appears to be working now and working well, esp. with Chunky reader on my iPad.

If you are fine waiting a few years for it or re-compiling the kernel on your own. The functionality has been added to kernel in April, which means it is in kernel 4.something, while Debian Wheezy (current openmediavault) is locked at 3.16 max with backported kernel, Debian Jessie (future openmediavault) is atm on 3.16 too, will probably get backports in the future.
Not even Debian Stretch (debian testing, very future openmediavault) has a newer kernel than 3.16.so yeah, if you want it on a reasonable timescale it's better to go with eCryptfs or dm-crypt.

Hey guys i like this project very much, great work! But I would love to have kiwix-serve running as a plugin. Kiwix is a lightweight little server for wiki data dumps. You can mirrow the complete wikipedia in a language of your choice if you want to, witch can be great when you live (or travel) in areas with slow internet. It also runs on arm. more information: http://www.kiwix.org/wiki/Kiwix-serve

get_iplayer
App for downloading content from BBC iplayer. There is also a web GUI that acts as a DVR which will auto download new shows based on what you want.

I've installed Squid proxy on my box to use it as a cache and speed up web browsing. It was very easy to set up. There should be a plugin for this.

Start new thread about how you set it up and maybe that might happen. -
