Keep a script running

  • Let me start with "yes, Im a linux noob"

To reduce the size of my video files, I installed handbrake + a script to do them as a batch. That works, but it will take (very approx) 2 days with my rather anemic dual core processor. That's not the problem. Ideally I want to be able to keep the script running in a terminal where I can also check the status (just the fps, really). I don't know how I can do that with ssh, as it stops the script if I close it, and Id rather not keep my main desktop running for those 2 days. Shellinabox keeps it running, but opens up a new session each time, so I cant see status. I'm not sure what else to try, and google hasn't helped me yet/

  • Have a look at screen, thats what you're looking for.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
