HP Microserver use HP Raid Controller or OMV Software Raid

  • Hello Community

now that I achieved booting my microserver gen8 from SSD I want to know wheter I should use the OMV internal raid for mirroring two drives or go for with the builtin Raid Controller of the microserver.
At the Moment i would think staying with the OMV Software raid is better as I am not bound to the Hardware in case the microserver fails to recover my data. But still what does the community think ?
thanks for your Feedback in advance

  • Hi,

I don't see any advantage in using the built-in Raid functionality.
And, as far as I know, the Gen8 doesn't have a real HW-Raid controller onboard.
So I stayed by the OMV-SW Raid in My Gen7.

  • I went software raid also on a Gen7 microserver. If it ever dies, I can just take my disks and plug them into any linux box and with mdadm I'm set up...

    HP N40L microserver | OMV 1.19 (Kralizec) | OMV extras 1.34 | kernel 3.16.0-0.bpo.4-amd64
