Samba not working for 2 of 3 users

  • Hi there,

    again, a SAMBA problem... :(

After reinstalling my OMV due to (data) HHD problems I now have the trouble that 2 of my 3 users can't access their samba shared folders. This was tested with two smartphones using ES File Explorer and my Raspberry 2 running with OpenElec.

I have three users (my wife, Kodi and me), all three shall have different rights to different folders. So I first created my account followed by the others. I have no problems connecting to my folders (in Ubuntu as well using my smartphone) according to my rights. But neither my wife nor Kodi can access theirs. As far as I can overlook all the settings everything SHOULD work...
After discovering this thread: Samba Share Types in OMV I renewed their passwords in CLI using

    Code
    sudo smbpasswd -a <user>

    but still no success.

Here is my smb.conf concerning folder "Musik"as an example:

Forget Obiwan, one of my testing accounts. Not even he was lucky ;)

What's the matter here - any ideas? :(

    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I guess that's the problem! 010a3652-d1b4-45dd-af3a-882509cf45d9 (=my new HDD) belongs to me! That's probably because I (test-)formatted it in my Ubuntu machine before using it in OMV (I was afraid of killing that HDD in my OMV again. Might be irrational, I know, but you'll never know... ;) )
Hm, but how can I change this without deleting all my data?

Sorry, no Windows available, only Android Phones and (L)Ubuntu machines :)
My ES File Explorer says this (something like "This account doesn't have the rights to open that folder"):

  • Oh, really as simple as that? Well yes, I remember these commands somehow (but it would have taken me ages to find that out). Will try it immediately!

  • Hooray! Tried two folders - seem to work! I'm gonna test the others tomorrow!

Thanks a lot - my next son will be named "subzero79"!

  • Sorry for the late reply, unfortunately family life isn't always as calculable as I want it ;)

So everything's fine now! Again, thank you very much!

How did you know where to search? Was it luck or did you know what could have gone wrong?

    The following told him everything:

  • Yeah, I know. As soon as I saw that I also knew what was wrong (what a simple and stupid mistake - but: lesson learned ;) ).

My question was how did subzero79 know he/I had to check THAT point? I know a little Linux by now but I would have never searched there, e.g. I started with the smb.conf etc.
