Good morning,
I am completely new to the NAS business. I have been using 2 Raspberry Pi and 1 Openelec + 1 Arkos for the last two years and building a mediacenter + very simple "Network Storage" / Owncloud system. The MediaCenter (Openelec) works awesome, but now it seems like it reached its limits:
A) Owncloud is reaching its RAM limit on the Arkos installation
B) tvheadend on Openelec can't store bigger files than 4GB --> movie recordings are a problem
Now my idea is to keep the client Rpi with Openelec (working awesome!) and remove the Rpi with Arkos and replace it with a NAS to provide:
1) Data Storage over Network + Raid or Mirroring (rsync) - any suggestions?
2) Tvheadend or VDR installation on the NAS to provide recordings and TV shows (from IPTV and DVB-C (Cable))
3) Security: fail2ban (I saw there is a plugin for OMV) and regulary security upgrade are a must
4) Possibility to stream my files to an Android device over the internet (passing informations to "outside world") in a secure way!
The main questions now are:
i) is OMV able to do all of this (also the security part!)?
ii) what hardware shall I use for it: my priority would be power saving over power
Any suggestions?
Thank you for your help,
