    can someone help

Yes. Even better if you'd use a proper thread title.

Did you add that entry ??? If so where ???

That source is alright. It's to install Java 8. It works fine on Debian 7. But he has it twice in his sources...

What his error was, but no one saw because he only posted the error, he spelled

    openmediavault-openjdk-8-jre

Even more confusing is that you tried to install the openjdk, and not the Oracle version...

  • David's post was not helpful. You need to find where you put those entries. We have no idea where you put them. It should be in one of the files in /etc/apt or in a file in one of the subfolders/files in that location. In the future do not add any repository manually. There is a cutsom TAB in OMV Extras where you can enter repos. At least then you would not have to find it.

  • David's post was not helpful.

I pointed out that he tried to install openmediavault-openjdk-8-jre. I also pointed out that he had a duplicate entry for the oracle repository.

mrbusta: Do what tekk says, find the duplicate entry. Then install the correct package for Java, a package called openmediavault-openjdk-8-jre does not exist.

    Code
    cat /etc/apt/sources.list
    ls -la /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
    cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*

  • ok kool guys yes i know i am a twat that did this!
just trying to install filebot and java to run as a tv show rename and i googled my but off
and tried what i have googled and that's where i came un stuck only really know windows

  • It is critical stuff when you alter repos. Most new to linux people make mistakes. That is why we made the custom TAB.

You will learn from your mistakes. The only thing here is we have no idea what instructions you were following to do this or exactly where you put those repo lines. You need to find them and delete them. Then "apt-get update" and we can help you then. Don't be afraid to ask questions before you make a mistake. A lot of things with OpenMediaVault are slightly different than a standard Debain install anways. So it is good idea to ask if you are unsure.

Run "apt-get update" and give me copy of errors at the end. Maybe we get some clues from that.

  • Fetched 1,632 B in 41s (39 B/s)
N: Ignoring file 'openme' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has no filename extension
W: GPG error: http://www.deb-multimedia.org wheezy Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 5C808C2B65558117
W: Failed to fetch http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/emby/{Repository}/Packages 404 Not Found

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

hope this helps thanks for the understanding

  • I would reinstall. Do not install debian multimedia repo either. There are packages in that repo that can break your install too.

Reinstall and ask for help with whatever you were trying to install that needed the java. Someone here will help you.
