The open network attached storage solution

    Afternoon all;

I'm pondering a new OMV build to replace my current server/storage setup (2x Dell machines running Windows 10 to support Plex and VPN/BitTorrent client dumping to an OLD Netgear ReadyNAS NVX+), and would like an outside opinion:

    MSI B365M PRO-VDH motherboard
Intel Core i7-9700 Coffee Lake 3.6 GHz processor
    4x Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR4-2666 memory
8x Western Digital Red 3TB hard drives connecting through an LSI 9211 HBA (reflashed Dell PERC H200)
2x Inland 240GB SSD drives (for OMV/Docker install)
4 port Intel I340-T4 Gigabit Ethernet adapter
Silverstone Strider SST-ST80F 800w power supply
    Fractal Design Node 804 case

System will be running 2 Docker containers:

Plex Media Server (most encodes are x265)
    Bittorrent with VPN

So, sanity check...am I aiming too low? Too high? Am I completely out of my gourd??

    Hi,
I have got my OMV 4 up and running but the system disk (24Gb out of 60gb occupied) is quite full and I'd like to do some maintenance and clear some space.
I did run Apt-get clear and recovered 1Gb but I think there is something huge to delete.
I'm not an expert of linux, just a user of OMV.

One more problem is that I lost my password for root user, but I still have access via ssh with my admin user/password (not sure if it is enough or if i should try and reset the root password, if yes how to?)

    Thanks for any help

    Hello.

My NAS was working correctly before last update.
Now they hangs (black screen) after the GRUB selection screen. No mather what I choose.
If i try to reinstall OMV it hangs (black screen) after I choose Install from OMV Installation screen (MEM Test is started and is OK).

    My configuration:

Intel Desktoboard D510 (Atom) 2x2GB RAM
System disk. SSD directly in MB SATA port.
2x650GB WD as sw raid0 plugged into PCIS-50 PCI 4x SATA RAID card
2x2TB Hitachi as sw raid0 plugged into PCIS-50 PCI 4x SATA RAID card
    Powered by PicoPSU 120.

I check the power adapter and, check also with standard 350W ATX PS with same result.

When I remove any of the data disk, the system boots (with errors: ACPI error and disconnected disk related errors).

Please have you any idea what to do?

    Thanks.

Check your net mask. For C-net it should be 255.255.255.0 not 255.255.252.0 i think you have some misunderstanding what a VPN is. The upper settings are for the virtual network itself. For the setting to outside you only need the WANIP informatiom.…

You are not aiming too low... And extreme overkill can, in itself, be very satisfying and fun. And much simpler than trying to figure out what is actually needed. I might have shifted the emphasis to faster networking. A nic with one or two 10GbE ports…

    Thank you very much @Adoby. I tried but I've not found anything helping. Probably I'm too noob to understand what to do. I tried to run sudo du -sh /*: 13G /10.0.30.30 13M /bin 944M /boot 8.0K /dev 7.6M /etc 4.0K /export 4.0K /home 0 /initrd.img 0…

So what am I messing up? I saved my certificate and added those files to the config folder. Should my DNS server (under DHCP settings) be something different like 8.8.8.8? (I changed the VPN network address) When I try and connect through the OpenVPN…
