  • Quote from ryecoaaron: “Quote from Eyerex: “but for some of us it's all we can afford ” There are plenty of boards out there that are just as cheap if not cheaper - just look here armbian.com/download/ ” I absolutely agree with you. Until the RPI 4 was launched. I think this one is absolutely perfect as a small home NAS. Powerfull enough (at least 2 GB RAM, of course) and finally USB 3 Ports as well as a gigabit port. I already ordered one just to wait until Debian 10.1 and OMV 5 gets released. …

    Have you tried to set your time accordingly? you have 2 different methods - manually or sync via NTP. I don´t know where your problem is exactly.

  • I know I´m a bit early to the "how does it perform" party - but any clue what is better: the Odroid HC2 or the Raspi 4? Besides the fact that HC2 does have a Sata-Port... Just pure hardware compatibility and performance, especially as a single small server for Plex (maybe including transcoding of 1080p files) and some other small dockers? I´m thinking about changing the current small server of a fried of mine with a more energy efficient one...

  • Do you use static IP or DHCP? What is your current DNS Server?

  • What do you want to archive? Who should access the server and where are they located? Within your private network or outside of it? What services do you want to provide?

  • I currently do not have a 3D printer anymore. But I have had 3 differen ones, two of them were built up by myself from the beginning. From all my printings this project would be definitely my biggest in size: ARM Board size: 305 × 244 mm So i honestly think this would be no good idea. What i can imagine, small holders in shape of the letter X where you can use at least 2 screws to attach ich to the ATX holes. That said i can imagine that any backplate available for the different ARM boards as we…

  • Hdd -> omv -> smb -> Apple tv 4k ?

    Quote from Chrisjay: “I did some more mind boiling reading on various sources that I can’t make plex on a Apple TV the main media server using plex. ” Not to question your decision - but what exactly are your thoughts about that? Why can´t be Plex the way to go?

    No. Apple TV cannot mount any SMB drive. You need an App for that. For example VLC. If you still want a pretty interface, Plex is the way to go. You can set it up to just stream the content without transcoding.

  • What File Share Protocol to use

    Quote from tkaiser: “I would use SMB for data shares (even if this has downsides with Mac and Linux clients) and in case you want to use OMV as a TimeMachine backup appliance use a single different share with AFP for this. ” That´s the way I currently do it. SMB for transferring files even with my Macs. AFP just for one fileshare to run all TM backups. Will try vfs_fruit in the future to fully drop AFP.

    Why don´t you use docker for that? Bitwarden does support docker.

    Quote from dertourist48: “Autoshutdown pluing was installed. Seems like apple tv which is in standby mode will not let my server allow to shut down. At least, this is what i can see from the logs. Do I have to change any specifics options like the uldl rate (set as 50) ? ” It is most likely a problem with the ports. But just check the "Debug Mode" and go to the LOG-Files. There you can switch to the autoshutdown log and see what is the problem.

    Quote from dertourist48: “WOL - I did not figure out how to wake up the Server from an other device (atv, tv..) ” That depends. It needs a WOL Package. I just don´t think that ATV, TV or similar are sending such a package. That´s why a dedicated WOL app works.
