OMV on ODROID XU4

Anyone know of a way to use this with a 3.5'' drive?
-
The XU 4 got 2 standard USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 standard USB 2.0 port. So if you use an external 3.5" drive with a dedicated power supply, it´ll work just fine.
-
I meant can the cloudshell fit a 3.5'' drive but never mind I saw that it can hold only a 2.5'' drive, kinda bummed about that I guess I'll just keep the drive in the enclosure
-
A 3.5" drive will not fit in cloudshell. It is only slightly bigger than a 2.5" drive.

Got time today and installed the odroid image to my Odroid XU4. Runs like a charm. Currently copying via RemoteShare from my N40L via network to my Odroid XU4 with an external USB 3.0 HDD.
-
@ryecoaaron can you use emby on it with transcoding or is it too heavy?
-
Never tried emby.
-
I first restarted my XU4 and noticed that it does not come back online. Unplugged everything, comes back online.
This thing does not boot, if an external HDD is plugged in!
It boots till this screen:
where it stays for about 5-10 minutes! Then it comes to this screen:
Thats it. Does not come up at all.
Any Ideas? -
A user on the odroid forum had that same problem but I don't have that issue with the cloudshell and its drive is always plugged in. I guess I will have to find a different external to try.
-
Do you have a link for that? I did not find it in their forums
-
-
I have a brand new WD Elements Desktop 4TB. It defenitely does not boot while it is connected.
-
This looks like a really fun setup! Nice! Do you find the little screen useful? Is this just for a personal home cloud?
The little screen could be useful if I displayed information on it. I am working on a plugin to display info on it. Trying to determine what information is useful to put on it. I was thinking...
IP ADDRESS (might be tough if more than one)
UPTIME …can you share how you made it work ? here I cannont boot the omv image with the lcd screen module inserted.
thanks,

Hi all, curious to hear how you like the performance of the xu4? Are you still happy with them? Trying to decide if going this route or something silent as the c1+. I already have a rpi2 but wanted to try something slightly more powerful.
-
Even though the XU4 has a fan, it doesn't make much noise. The fan only runs when the CPU gets warm/hot. Performance is good especially for the power consumption and price.
-
Thanks for the input!

Very happy with the odroid XU4 for nas. I have also made a NAS with raspberry pi and banana pi. In my experience, the XU4 NAS is better in every single way. Raspberry pi could not get more than 12MBs, banaNAS made it up to 35MBs, and XU4 is sustaining 90MBs.
