I did notice that uninstalled OwnCloud in the process but i hadn't set that up yet so that isn't so much of a problem. I was going to try it out once our local wordpress website was active.

I had a chance to reinstall today and now mysql is now working thank you after the below commands. I shall get on setting up my wordpress site. Is it possible there is a problem when OwnCloud is also installed as i will leave trying this if it would cause things to go wrong again.

Where is my Wordpress directory being stored with no options in the extra mysql dialogue box, If I added datadir=(Link written a certain way?) which is one of my FTP shares on my Raid will i then be able to FTP into the Wordpress upload folder like i can on a host online. Also if i do this will it transfer my existing install?
