Hallo to everyone!
I've just became a member of the family of OMV.
I have a knowledge problem of how to install the Driver on OMV for my WiFi-Adapter(intel dual band Wireless - AC 7260). I managed to find the driver for Linux and downloaded the File - iwlwifi-7260-ucode-22.1.7.0.tgz. Now i have the problem of how to install it to my Rig. Can someone explain it to me with my excuse that i'm windows user and i've just began to understand Linux.
Best regards!

I wrote a quick script to install it using the readme instructions. Do the following as root:
wget http://omv-extras.org/intel_7260.sh
chmod +x intel_7260.sh
./intel_7260.sh -
Hallo again,
Thanks for the reply since yesterday i am trying to log in as root(yes i know it very easy but for me isn't as i said i am a Linux newbie) and have tried everything. Probably i am doing something wrong so i'll describe what i'm doing:
1. Starting the Rig
2. Then comes the Menu GNU GRUB 1.99-27+deb7u2 and i press c for commandline
3. It comes grub> command line and here i'm trying to go to root (Su, sudo, root are not working - i'm getting error msg)
4. Error: unknown command 'sudo', 'cd', 'su' etc.
Can someone help me a bit here pls....
Best regards -
You don't want to press c at grub. You want to boot OMV to its login prompt.
-
Thanks for the quick response.
I finally got it and manage to ssh into my OMV Rig with the root account. Everything downloaded without problems. Now I wanted to start using my wifi adapter but there was the same problem: I went to Network/Interface/Add/WiFi and there i can not find WiFi Device to set to. I thought it was because the driver was not installed and OMV did not recognize my WiFi Adapter but obviously the problem lies somewhere else. It is possible that i am doing something wrong in trying to enable my WiFi Card.
Can somebody help me with a little clue how can I solve this?
Best regards! -

What kernel do you have installed ? Check with uname -a
if it says 3.2, then you need to install backports one. In omv-extras section you'll find a button. Once finished reboot and check interfaces again

After you instal extras you need to run apt-get -f install
looks like you have a DNS problem. The network is set it up as static or dhcp ?
-
I've done clean install of OMV, the kernel is still 3.2(root@OMVHomeServer:~# uname -a
Linux OMVHomeServer 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.68-1+deb7u3 x86_64 GNU/Linux) and managed to install omv-extras plugin after the installation. So far so good... but WiFi interface isn't present. Should i try apt-get -f install now?
or its better to load iwlwifi-7260 driver from the post from reycoaaron?
There is no backports in omv-extras....
Under OMV/OMV-extras.org/Kernel is a Button that says +Install Backposrts 3.16 Kernel should i try it?
Thank YOU for the support and the quick response. -
Yes install the backport kernel. The backport kernel has the driver, the package you're installing has the FIRMWARE. For the card to work you need both.
-
Still there is no WiFi interface. See the attached file. My Kernel is 3.16 but i can not use my WiFi...
-
And the firmware is installed also ?
-
sorry to mention this again the firmware is in the package you downloaded previously, is it installed?. Driver and firmware are two different things and you need them both
-
Sorry for the late response was at work. You mind this:
wget http://omv-extras.org/intel_7260.sh
chmod +x intel_7260.sh
./intel_7260.sh
or the Driver that i mentioned earlier: iwlwifi-7260-ucode-22.1.7.0.tgz?
I didn't install anything after the fresh installation and the omv-extras.org with the Kernel 3.16 -
Yes that install. You need that also
-
I've installed the driver but still i can't select a Interface.
