No, but you can do it manually via cron script for example.

You might use this in OMV task planner
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade -yCheers

UZIThanks, that worked just fine.
I just have to wait for some actual updates to arrive. -
Nice. I wish OMV will have this feature.

Hi @ryecoaaron, I was just searching for auto updates and found this thread.
Can you explain further why 'auto updates on a server is a dangerous idea'?
I was thinking about auto updating but I don't want to break my system, it would be really helpful to me if you could help me understand further why auto updating is bad.
Thanks for your help with this

It does install updates without your knowledge. Normally you should check what has been changed and then decide if you want to update or not.

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I'm curious about this too.
I'm a rather inexperinced user who appreciates the the user friendlyness of OMV. Setting up my NAS was no problem at all even for someone who knows only the very basics of linux. But from WIndows I'm used to automatic updates and when I look at the available updates list in OMV, I have no idea whatsoever what exactly these will do and if there is any chance of them breaking my system. Until now I just check maybe once a week and simply install everything new that's available. So naturally I wondered about auto-updating as this becomes a little tedious.
But appearantly installing every update is a bad thing? Color me a little confused...

Personally I always update everything. It never broke anything except one time when I had not enough space on the OS drive. In that case I was glad to have a backup of my system drive.
I would not automatize the update process. If you do it manually you see if something goes wrong and check what it was.

I have several OMV NAS. I update one first. Everything. If all goes well I update the rest. There has never been any problem. I like to do it when I know I have time to fix any problems. Say a Saturday morning with nothing much else going on.

I wouldn't do an apt-get dist-upgrade in an automatic unattended manner. Suggest changing that to apt-get upgrade.

If only they had a package meant to do automatic upgrades... https://packages.debian.org/buster/unattended-upgrades
