Server OMV still inaccessible

  • I'm working for about 8 hours to move files from PC to OMV server.
Suddently this no longer responded either webgui, putty and terminal.
I had to press the reset button.
The first message was concerning the absence of the boot disk; then, with a new boot after some minutes, the server started.
Now I want to verify if it is all OK.

Furthermore I not able to see the graphs about performance statistics.
I don't know if this is related to another issue.

    Thanks in advance for help.

  • My server is still inaccessible.
It replies to ping, but I not able to access by WebGuy, Putti or console.

  • It's in inaccessible also to console.
Last week I have to reset the server with the button

As written in my previous post, if I reset again the server, how I can verify if with this thene there are problems with disk or other?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would reset and see if there are any errors displayed when booting.

  • The OS is into a USB Key Kingston Hyper 16GB.
After reset (Friday) it is appeared the error that there was a bootable disk.
Today (Monday) at the console appear several errors and then ends with:

can't access tty; job control turned off.

then the server is not responding even to the ping.

Shutdown the server and turned on it is not able the find bootable disk.
Shutdown the server, changed the USB port and turned it on again.
    Now the server is started.

From the GUI the kingston has 8,77 GB free and the two RAID are in the "clean" state.
In the Information System Statistic I'm not able to see any graphs.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Did you use the flash memory plugin with the USB stick??? If not the stick is probably bad now.

I use a Kingston HyperX Fury USB Flash Drive.
I use another USB for FreeNAS and another for a VMWare VSphere.
    Whithout problems.

Sure, maybe this one is bad now, but the strange thing is that OMV has crashed twice when I was transferring from hour hundreds of GB from the PC to the server.

    Now, my questions are:

    • Is it possible that during this operation the partition of the OS (on flash memory) has been overly stressed?
    • How to verify if there are some problems with the disks?
    • How to verify if all the files were properly transferred?
    • There are no longer charts (see the first attachment). Is this problem related to the problem of the crash?
    • During the upgrade there is a problem (see the second attachment). Is it another problem or also this is related to crash?

    Thanks

FreeNAS loads everything into memory. OMV does not. You need to use the flashmemory plugin if you are going to use a usb stick. The old one has failed. I wouldn't try to use it anymore.

With the plugin, where they will be installed updates?

    And what about the graphs?

Updates will be the same as they have always been.

Graph data is written to ram and then sync'd to the drive when shutdown/reboot.

I read the instructions on the panel of the plugin, but I was looking for a little more information.
For example, how much memory do I need more.

About the graphs, there is a small misunderstanding.
I mean if you have some answers about my problem. You saw the screnshot ?
I can not see the graphics and I did not understand if this is a second problem or if it is a result of the crash.

The plugin works fine on an RPi with 512 MB ram. So, I would say 512 MB is the minimum on any system.

If you have a failing stick, I would not try to diagnose why the graphs aren't working. They are most likely related. If you reinstall on a new stick with the flashmemory plugin and the graphs still do not work, that is a different problem.
