I have just replaced one of my drives with a larger one but it is still showing the old smaller capacity.
How do I increase the capacity to the available size of the new disk ?
Increase Capacity of RAID Mirror
-
- OMV 2.x
- gelöst
- Pegasus
-
-
Are both drives the same size now?
-
Thanks for responding so quickly.
My original config was 1 x 320GB & 1 x 500GB
I have replaced the 320gb with a 1TB
The capacity shown now is still representative of the old 320GB (279GB)
I have tried increasing the file size in the file system menu for the RAID but nothing happens. -
-
In the filesystem section there is a resize button. Once the syncing is finished you can press that button to expand it. It will only go to 500GB only
-
I've tried that - when I clicked the button nothing happened.
-
To be exact, when I clicked the button it asked me if I was sure I wanted to increase the size. I then clicked 'yes' but nothing happened after that.

Does the raid display as clean with the two disks ?
can you post cat /proc/mdstat
and df -h
-
I'm sorry - I don't know how to get that information.
-
In terminal you have to access through ssh. You can enable ssh in services. You also need a client like putty.
the mdstat info you can get it from the raid management panel with the detail button. -
-
I'll have to get back to you with that.
Could I wipe the disks & create a new raid then copy the data back from a backup copy? -
Sure, if that what you want. Only problem is you have to stop all services and delete all shares, before unmounting the drives. Your setup is really unusual btw. Raid1 with very different size disks.
make sure you have your backup.

I was going to mount another 500GB drive but at the last moment I couldn't source one. If I can get this to work I will upgrade the other disk to 1TB.
FYI OMV says the Raid is clean
I can't access the system with putty right now.
Do you have any idea what could be causing the problem? -
-
Has the other drive 320 being physically removed ?
-
Yes it has
-
How did you replace the disk?
-
-
I removed it from the raid in the management panel - then physically removed it - the installed the new drive & recovered the raid.
Wrong??
-
No. Is fine. When you get time to access ssh show me the information that are requested in the sticky post in the raid section.
-
Ok- I've hit a bit of a problem because the computer I set OMV up on doesn't have a serial port so I cant connect with putty (unless there is a way that I'm not aware of.)
I will look into getting a serial card tomorrow.
In the meantime, can you explain exactly what I would need to do to remove the current disks from the raid & set up a new raid (at which time I assume the correct capacity would register.
I do have up to date backups.
Many thanks for you help and patience with a beginner. -
-
Sir, you don't need a serial card. Ssh is through the network. Please don't get a serial card.
-
Thanks for that. I managed to log in via putty.
When I entered the commands you gave me it came up with some results - but how do I post them here. I can't copy them from the putty panel
