[HELP] Can't Log in on the Web-Gui with right credentials

  • Hello everyone... Yesterday system was running fine, woke up today, tried to login to check my shares, Web-Gui says I have the wrong password even knowing I have inputted the right credentials...

Tried rebooting and by the way quotas took a long time to boot, never turned quotas on... anyways... Logged into Root, and gave thepasswd admin a shot.... Said password was Switched OK!

Tried logging in again via Web-Gui.... Wrong Pass again... Tried logging in with admin account on the actual machine terminal, it apparently logs in then almost like instantly logs back off to logging screen.

My Comuter HD is divided into two partitions one for system other for my files... Never messed with system partition, no weird permissions, nothing...

    Can anyone help me out?

ps.: btw I can't root login through web-admin? (i guess it makes sense)

  • Sorry I took a While didn't know how to copy all that so I took a Picture of my screen...

Btw my system is in Portuguese because I'm from Brazil so Read table as follows: System File > Size > Used > Available > Usage % > Mount Point In (I know is Guessable but... what a hell I'll help a bit)

The two last mount points are the ones I know and use for storage.... the rest is system related...
By the looks of it... (I know I'm not a specialist) but looks alright to me...

    Any advise?

  • I switched to a more simple password (with no special characters like @ or ~) and rebooted... Now it seems to be working, at least it logged me in... Is this maybe a bug? or bad block on my HD that got fixed?

  • I've tried even a new keyboard... that wasn't the case... always had the right password typed, copied from text files too... maybe a bad block on my HD?

Well anyways if it happens again I'll post it here... meanwhile thanks for all the help subzero :) ...

  • would you please tell us what special chars you used? Just the special chars not your whole password of course :whistling:

btw - OMV got 2 passwords. One (you changed via command line) is to login via SSH or localy. The second one (you can change via omv-firstaid) is the one for the WebIF.

  • I have experienced this issue as well with OMV 2.1.25 and default admin password 'openmediavault'

I'm not sure what brought me in the situation, but the GUI refused to accept the password. I usually type fairly quick, so the first couple of times it may have been a typo. But then even with carefully typing it still didn't work.

I then used omv-firstaid to change the password. First to something shorter and then back to the default.

A couple of days later, it happened again. I think I just restarted the webbrowser and then it worked (chrome). I may also have forcefully rebooted the server. Sorry don't remember. Perhaps some caching etc. in the browser is messing things up.

Yes... Definitively need more investigation... Like I've said if that happens again I'll shout!!! :)

My old password was generated on one of those password generators... The Special characters were: ^"]@

FYI My SSH is disabled... Don't know if that got to do with anything...

Could it be a permission issue?

  • We seeing a similar problem here. Between myself and another associate, we have seen this happen multiple times on multiple installs of OMV. For some odd reason the web-GUI admin password gets lost or erased so we are forced to use omv-firstaid to reset the admin password. However, it would appear that the omv-firstaid admin password reset is not completely reliable and very often the reset never happens. So, we are effectively locked out of the web-GUI. The quickest solution for us is to re-install OMV and apply patches right way. But as we approach production deadlines, re-installing is not an ideal solution. The passwords that we use for our testing are simple and don't contain any special characters.

Hope that someone has some ideas to fix this issue. Thanks.

  • Ok, I have a failing system here:

Here is a slightly modified version of the tailed auth.log:

So it would appear that Authorized logins are working. But perhaps there is a problem with "unsupported timezone"?

  • Ok, failure is happening right now. Even while Authorized logins are showed in the auth.log...we still cannot get to the web gui. The system appears to accept the admin and password combo but then the system kicks the user out back to the login screen.
