  • Hey demetris,

    two things, first it would be nice if you could elaborate on any (special?) settings etc. you used to build those kernels and second, your hoster of choice seems to be really clouded with ads and social media refs... I'd suggest you to actually take a look at bintray for hosting those packages instead. ;)

    Other than that: nice work.

    @ryecoaaron Maybe It'd even be possible to create plugin packages of those, like I tried back then initially?

    Greetings
    David

    What is the advantage of these kernels over the backport 4.3 (soon to be 4.4) kernels? The 4.4 kernel is the latest LTS kernel.

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

    omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

  • @davidh2k
    I can build them with any special drivers if is required or requested ;) but for now is just a vanilla build for OVM usage.
    My provider used to be among the best but now days due to economics they are force to use ads to get some cash flow in but i know for fact that my uploaded binaries wont ever be erased
    and as i already stated you have to press the blue shape with "Download Now" in it and you will be "ok" but if anyone wants feel free to host them else where.
    @ryecoaaron
    Is there a question for me in your reply?
    My mother language is greek(hi from Cyprus btw) and it seems to me like a statement from your part.

  • Aaron wants to know what benefits your kernels offer versus using the backports kernel.

  • LTS releases are designed to be stable kernels that you can stick with for a long time and receive security updates and other bug fixes as well as hardware support improvements.
    LTS versions are designed to be more polished source wise :)

  • Ah, thats why Aaron mentioned the upcoming backports kernel update to 4.4 which is the next LTS Kernel, so from that point of view your kernels could be considered obsolete.

    Where do you find 4.4.6? Which backport repo do you use?

    I use the following repo:

    Code
    deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie-backports main

    It doesn't contain the kernel 4.4.6:

    Which kernel version exactly is the lts version: 4.4, 4.4.6, 4.4.x?

    There is only one Debian backport repo for Jessie and it is the one that omv-extras enables. You have the same one listed too.

    Debian doesn't change the package number. You don't end up with a bunch of kernels installed that way (like Ubuntu or Redhat) So, it is deceiving. You install 4.4.0 and get 4.4.6:
    Linux server 4.4.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.4.6-1~bpo8+1 (2016-03-20) x86_64 GNU/Linux

    All 4.4 kernels are LTS. The revision doesn't change the status.

  • Ok, great. Thanks for the explanation.

  • Hi

    Could you create a tutorial or a guide how to compile kernel ?

    That will be great

    PS: @Silverchair_mfcu do same for OMV2

  • Are these kernels compatible with OMV2?
