Downloads and Uploads folder on the system drive for use with the Downloader plugin

  • Uploads folder:
    1) In OMV's Web GUI go to System/Plugins and install the openmediavault-downloader plugin. It is in the Downloaders section in the plugins.
    2) Now in a root ssh session make an uploads folder.
cd / ( to get into the root of the system drive)
    mkdir uploads
    3) Now go back into OMV's Web GUI. Go to Services and Click on the "Downloader" icon.
    4) Click on the Symlinks TAB at the top. It is the 3rd TAB from the left.
    5) Click on Add.
    6) For the source select the "uploads" folder you just created above that is at the root of the system drive. (See pic1)
    7) For the Destination click on the Spyglass folder on the right side of the field. Then select one of your data drives (filesystem) to put a symlink on. This is only to redirect data from that location to the location on the system drive and it will allow a shared folder to be created that is symlinked to the system drive. Click on OK. (See pic2)
8 ) After you have selected the filesystem you need to add "/uploads" at the end of that path. (See pic3)
    9) Click on "Save"
    10) Now in the Web GUI go to Access Rights Management / Shared Folders
    11) In Shared Folders click on Add. In the volume select the Volume that matches the filesystem where you created the symlink above. I have labels so I have to know what label matches the UUID I selected to put the symlink on.
    12) Now for the path field click on the Spyglass folder on the right side of the field. You should see an "uploads" folder in the pop up even though there is no uploads folder on that volume. The symlink makes the folder that is on the system drive appear to be on the volume. Select the "uploads" folder and click on OK.
    13) Now in the Name field put "uploads" and then click on Save.

To upload a file to your OMV:
    1) In the Web GUI go to Services / Downloader
    2) Click on the Upload TAB in the Downloader plugin.
    3) For Shared Folder select the "uploads" folder.
    4) For file owner select "root".
    5) Click on "upload" and click "browse" to select the file you want to upload. Click on OK.

Now when you start a root ssh session all you have to do is change directory to the uploads folder and you have access to the file.
    cd /uploads

  • A downloads folder can be created the same way. All you have to do is replace uploads with downloads in the above steps 1-13.

*** add info on downloading files ***

*** This is an example of how to use shared folders (space) on the system drive in a plugin without a separate partition. ***
