do I need the rpc-mapper service?

I got an abuse message regarding a DDOS where my server i used. the attack vector is the UDP 111 rpc-mapper service.

I use the server as an NFS server and wonder if I need the rpc-mapper for it. If not I could disable it. (I don't see and rpcmapper service and wonder if it is the same as /etc/init.d/rpcbind?)

You certainly do not want to expose the RPC mapper port to the internet. Did you?

I hope you aren't using nfs over the internet as well.
