Write Minimalisation Support USB

  • I am very interested on running openmediavault on a memory stick, but they die in three o four weeks. In particular I have done several tests (eg ramlog " http://www.tremende.com/ramlog/ " ), I have read many threads on the forum and searched for the 4 corners of the internet. In the latter, I have found this web site " https://gist.github.com/ngnpope/3806732 " (OpenMediaVault: Write Minimalisation Support USB) but my knowledge of linux is not enough to understand  also it seems very interesting. Everything is based on the use of package "flashybrid" " http://www.spinifex.com.au/plugs/flashybrid.html ".
Someone who knows more than I, can clarify something to me? I think the issue is very interesting for the whole community openmediavault.
    Greetings.

  • Save yourself the headaches. The way Debian uses ram and the amount of r/w it does their will be no cost benefit to using a USB stick. In fact it would be more expensive over time. I have messed with different types of flash memory (compact flash, usb stick) the last 4 yrs. From my experience it's not a good medium at all.

  • Operating system write over system disk every 5 seconds. Never it´s idle. Night, day, over and over. Collectd write 100 MB in two hours, flush-8 write 50 MB in two hours, ..... i use iotop to see disk stats. OMV is mainly a home server that must have a rest.
