No plex update showing up in Update Manager

  • So, I tried to access my plex server via my phone and got an "Update to the server is required". So I got onto the omv, went to Update Manager, I have seen Plex updates here before, but I do not see one at this time. If I open the plex server interface, there is a banner at the top that states there is an update for the server.

What do I do? How can I update?

    Thanks.

  • You really aren't providing enough information to get a definitive answer.

What version of OMV are you running?

What is your current version of PMS?

What is the version of the update that PMS says is available?

Are you a Plex Pass member?

    What is the output of:

    apt-cache policy plexmediaserver

  • OMV Version: 2.2.7 (stoneburner)
PMS Version: 0.9.12.4 (this is from the plex server, this is not the version of the `openmediavault-plexmediaserver` plugin, that is 1.0.15)
PMS Version available: 1.0.0.2261 (I Guess anyway, that is the version when I click the link in the banner)
No, I am not a plex pass member.
    output:

    Code
    plexmediaserver:
      Installed: 0.9.12.4.1192-9a47d21-1~wheezy
      Candidate: 0.9.12.4.1192-9a47d21-1~wheezy

  • The availability of updates from the OMV repository is always some days behind what is released by Plex.tv. If you want OMV to handle the update for you, you will have to wait until an updated package becomes available.

I don't run on ARM hardware, so I don't know what might happen if you were to install a package that Plex.tv is offering you via PMS itself.

Is there any eta on when a omv package will be available?

It isn't an OMV package. It is a Debian Wheezy or Jessie package. It will be available when the package maintainer starts updating it again. If you look at the dates on the repo where I get the packages from, you will probably be waiting a long time...

    How can i update mine?

  • Don't install updates from the plex web interface especially arm!

I confirm. I did that mistake few days ago and I screwed up my entire Plex: impossible to start plex server properly.
(if I remember well I noticed many zombie plex processes)
I was forced to clean up all the mess manually and make a fresh install by remote ssh.
... plus a clean config as well ;(

My advice: only use the extra OMV package offered in the GUI and update only via the GUI

    How can i update mine?

It says the newer version should install. Is it not in the Updates tab in the omv web interface?
