[SOLVED] OMV does not launch after install

  • Hi,

I have a problem after installing OMV from an USB Stick,
It starts launching and freeze :

    "Loading, please wait...
[1.247364] ACPI : [Package] has zero elements (f3684920)
[3.325398] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] No caching mode page found
[3.325398] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache : write through
mdadm : No Arrays found in config file or automatically
    Scanning for Btrfs filesystems
    /dev/sdb1: recovering journal
    /dev/sdb1 clean, 37182/905760 files, 356915/3618048 blocks"

I'm a beginner with servers and OMV,

Does someone have an idee that could help me ?

    Thanks a lot

  • I have a question, why are you using 32bit install?

your CPU supports 64bit OS and OMV works much better as a 64bit OS than 32bit.
and yes you can run 64 bit Linux OS even with 1GB ram, I do it all the time.
do not work well with Windows though ;)

  • Hi vl1969

so I tried today to install OMV on my harddrive,
    same problem appears,
the grub/debian page launchs after boot
but then the same message came on screen....

    Any idea ?

    Mathieu

  • Though to say. If thr omv Dev don't have any ideas I would say try going the long way.
Install debian Jessie see if it boots. We know that Ubuntu does. Than there is a how to here on the board to install omv on existing debian set-up.
If your debian set-up will boot it might work out fine.

  • Hi,

so I tried to install Debian,
    everything worked fine,
but after the reboot, happened something similar :

    "Loading, please wait ...
[0.757564] ACPI : [Package] has zero elements (ffff880037184840)
    /dev/sda1 : recovering journal
    /dev/sda1 : clean, 152684/9412608 files, 1603017/37631232 blocks"

    and stay like that.

One time, before I installed Debian, OMV (installed on the HardDrive) launched and seems to work. But after a reboot, the same problem appears. I have no idea why it worked this only time.

    Thanks

    Mathieu

  • well based on google results,
you might have several issues here.

first the ACPI error. which can also trigger the next issue some how. Not sure how but several reports I seen point to that possibility. what is your hardware? CPU, video, MB etc.

the journal error and subsequent no boot can also be triggered by problem with video drivers.
a known issue in Debian and Ubuntu distros on some hardware.

so check if your vide hardware is supported by Linux and see where is the ACPI error coming from.

    SM-SC846(24 bay)| H8DME-2 |2x AMD Opteron Hex Core 2431 @ 2.4Ghz |49GB RAM

    OS on 2×120 SSD in RAID-1 |
    DATA: 3x3T| 4x2T | 2x1T

  • I had the same problems today with ACPI error messages and omv 5.0.5. not booting after installation.

Disable acpi didn't work either. Seems there are some problems with linux on Asrock-Mainboards with APUs (AsRock A-320M HDV R4.0 with AMD Athlon 200GE in my case).

This finally enabled me to boot into omv.

Just in case anyone else stumbles over this post on google like I did.
