you need to us ip address as dhcp hostnames do not work (usually) over VPN.
if you connect to the shares using ip/sharename it should fix this
-
Thank you for the reply .. I will try that

If you want to avoid VPN when accessing your share files, you can try WebDAV or install NextCloud.
-
That sounds good. do these methods allow you to access all files on omv? Are there any guides for setting it up?
-
It's like FTP, but it's friendlier.
WebDav has a plugin.
NextCloud has to be manually installed. -
@tinh_x7 Thank you for the link. NextCloud looks like a fun project for my RPi / OMV but I think i'll install on a testing SD card first
The only thing that I don't think will work on my setup is that I use a macmini as my main file server. it would be really good if I could somehow link the shares on my macmini to the install of Nextcloud on the OMV server. Basically publish my macmini shares through next cloud running on OMV.
Is this possible or should I stick with VPN which works great for me...

Nextcloud has the local mount option which you can mount SMB/CIF storage, NFS...
Look on the Nextcloud web page for further info.
