Hello, new to nas servers and am trying to get a raspberry pi3 server running with OMV on my local home network. I am able to log into the web interface and see the file system in which i am trying to create the shared folder, but cannot select it as a volume during the creation process. Help!!

Have you watched the video (see link below)?

Just did and when i get to the point of creating a file system, the device drop down loads for 2 seconds and then goes away.
-
this is what i have

Probably because you already have filesystems on all drives. And if there is no space left without filesystem you cannot create another one.
If you do not need one of the filesystems, you can unmount it and then wipe the drive. BUT this will DELETE all data on the drive.
-
If you go to "shared folders" you should be able to create shares on the mounted drives (excluding the system drive).
-
So i had to wipe the original drive through omv gui, transferring all that was on it to another drive, then wiping it. A real pain. Will I have to wipe any drive that i wish to see through the OMV gui and use? I have existing HDDs that i would like to use and do not wish to wipe.

Will I have to wipe any drive
That should not be the case.

For the record and maybe there is a pattern:
What brand and type are the two drives and which filesystem was/is on them?
