Third clean install - can't check for updates

  • Hi everyone - It's been a while since I've been back 'OMV-ing' and would really appreciate some guidance to get this working.

I have done a clean install of the latest stable version three times and have always been receiving the following error when I 'check for updates' in 'Update Management': Note I couldn't include the full error in the below due to the character limit (I've included the header and footer)

Note: I have tried the following:

    • apt-get clean : this completes fine
    • apt-get update : this incurs the above error
    • I have checked my DNS server

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    RS

    uninstalled omv-extras,

omv-extras isn't causing this issue and your sources.list looks fine. I'm not getting these errors on any systems so it isn't a repo issue. What else did you install?

    Hi there,

I haven't installed anything else. Process:

    1. Clean install from USB
    2. Uploaded the .deb file from the OMV Extras website
    3. Installed ALL updates in update manager
    4. Issue

I'm wondering whether an update in the update manager is causing the issue. I didn't pick and choose which update to install. I installed all of them.

    Thoughts?

I've checked everything and there is no blocking/filtering. I can try to do a fresh install again? Each time this issue has occurred, it has been the result of installing updates in update management - there were a long list of updates.

Are there any of those updates that I potentially shouldn't be installing? Could any of them be conflicting with my hardware (it's pretty old) or network?

I've read through the thread and the initial problem would point to some network/connection problem....however, what I do is to install updates 6 at a time, that way if there are any issues the list or errors can be pinpointed....I also leave anything to do with the kernel/image til last and sometimes ignore them altogether.

Thanks for the input. I figured that the issue may be occurring because of updates - so I did a fresh install and used the CLI (omv-update) to install updates. Much better.

I would do a fresh install and ONLY update the OMV package. If that works correctly, I would update everything but the kernel and see if it still works right. If that works, then update the kernel.

Thanks for this. Will definitely bear this in mind in future. For now, what has worked for me (and so much simpler) is SSH via Terminal on my mac and executing 'omv-update' - opposed to the WebGUI. I haven't had any issues with this method.
