Long story short... I kept getting a mbam and openmediavault would not launch due to the wrong device being selected upon initial boot.
If I hit "e" on and manually change the Linux boot from /dev/sdd1 to /dev/sdc1 it will boot and all is well. After I reboot the config never saves.
I tried using root and editing /boot/grub/grub.cfg using VI and changing it there but it didn't seem to affect the boot. I hit "e" again, changed it to /dev/sdc1 logged in as root and verified that the grub.cfg file was in fact saved.
Where else should I be editing the Linux boot device so it goes to the correct drive?

Forgot to run "update-grub" command. All is working now.
