Q: If I plug my OMV formatted HDD (EXT4) to my Linux (Mint 19.1) desktop using USB to SSD cable I am unable to access it. I don't even see the file system. What am I missing?
OMV v4.1.3
Odroid HC2
Thanks in advance!

Is the USB/SSD cable device recognized my Mint? Look at the tail of dmesg after plugging it in to see.
Yes, I tested it with another HDD. The HDD does appear but without a file system. Was wondering if the OMV formatted HDD gets encrypted by default?
Ok been a while but finally getting back to this... ran the dmesg (see attached text file) and it is seeing the drive. Going to wipe HDD and try again.
Been months and no replies. I can't believe I'm the only one having this issue. So what do you do if your HC2 dies? I guess I'm better off using Ubuntu instead of OMV.
On the dmesg output I can see the drive been mounted probably by gvfs. Depending on the permissions in the root Fs of the drive as normal desktop user you could not see everything.
Thanks. Darn, same issues with Ubuntu Mate 18 on the HC2! I got some feed back from the Linux admin at work and mention that is probably LVM and to use fstab command. Will test.
Hi,
AFAIK some SATA to USB adapters/docks mask the geometry of the drive, causing what I believe you are experiencing:
- A drive formatted without the adapter appears as unformatted when connected to it.
- A drive formatted when connected to the adapter is not recognized by the computer when attached directly to it (or behaves weirdly at most).
I would suggest you connect the drive to an internal SATA port and see if that makes any difference.
Hope this helps a bit.
