failed to start Raise network interfaces

  • Hi,
I updated my OMV 3.0.99 (debian8), running on a esxi5.5, and face now the following issues:
    - machine is only reachable via esxI console
    - ip a: eth0 is state Down
    - ifup eth0: /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/openmediavault-iptables: 5:
    /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/openmediavault-iptables: iptables: not found
    /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/openmediavault-iptables: 6:
    /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/openmediavault-iptables: ip6tables: not found
    run-parts: /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/openmediavault-iptables exited with return code 127
    Failed to bring up eth0
    - systemctl status networking.service:
systemd[1]: failed to start Raise network interfaces
systemd[1]: networking.service: Unit entered failed state
    systemd[1]: networking.service: Failed with result 'exit-code' (code 127)

Has any body an idea how to fix that issue? Or how to reinstall the system?
    Thanks for your support
    Tom

    Did you try using omv-firstaid?

rc openmediavault 3.0.99 all Open network attached storage solution

Mhm, openmediavault is removed, just the configuration left. omv-firstaid will probably not help.

For me the system looks pretty messed up with those plugins.

Maybe @subzero79 or @ryecoaaron know how to fix it.

@tom448 please note that OMV3 is EOL and there are many threads with problems with OMV3 related to Debian 8 (OMV3 is based on Debian 8)
Have a look at the update/upgrade section.

omv was probably uninstalled because the proftpd-basic update was installed that I posted a thread about - https://forum.openmediavault.o…-basic-update-on-OMV-3-x/

  • First of all, thanks for your support!!
What is the best way to move forward in this case?
Is there there a smart way to fix that problem?
Can I install OMV 4.x on this virtual machine (esxi) and mount the data shares without loosing data?

Depends on your comfort with Linux.

I am helping others with the same issue in this thread - https://forum.openmediavault.o…pt-get-update-failed-too/

Yes. It might be safer to detach the disks from the VM if you don't have backup.

  • I can't do the upgrade, because I dont't have a network connectivity

For my humble opinion, I need to fix the network conection first and then I can upgrade on OMV 4.x

    I can't execute the update/upgrade, because I don't have a network connectivity:

  • Try disabling the scripts

    chmod -x /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/openmediavault-iptables

Great. no the WebGui Ip-adress works again, but I've got a 403 error message (nginx)
the update/upgrade doesn't works correct, because I got error meassage
"E: Der Wert"jessie" ist für APT::Default-Release ungültig, da solch eine Veröffentlichung in den Paketquellen nicht verfügbar ist"
