USB - MergerFS - SNAPRAID

  • So, I'm looking at setting up X86 SBC for backup, and test of openmediavault. That means USB connections to drives which means RAID, no way. Bandwidth problem. UnionFS, really mergerfs, is a good mount point for 2 drives.

The question, anyone running 3 drives on USB with mergerfs and SNAPRAID? Does it work OK?
    Thanks for info.

  • Phoronix tests are not really significant because of bad setups (see tkraiser tests but basically you need noatime and nodiratime for things to be fast).

Anyway throughput will be capped by the network.

I run 3 SBC NaS with usb hdd and everything seems to be working fine except Plex on docker (known issue but not linked to btrfs).

Of course ext4 is tried and proved but less fun (no cow, easy snapshots, scrubbing and so on).
