Hello, I am heavily new to OMV and I have a computer for a client of mine, and they claim it is not working at all. I said I would take a look at it so here I am now. I am stuck on the login screen "MEDIA Login:" and "Password:" they do not know the password. at the top I noticed it has an ethernet server (I have to say for a person that knows little of linux and OMV itself it was very handy having the instructions on the login screen for help) the ethernet server says "192.168.0.20" but I use a web browser to look into it and it says it cant connect, I cannot ping that connection, and I cannot SSH that connection either. I have been using google to help me, but no dice. if you kindly decide to help me that would be muchly appreciated! if you need more information I can try and give it. Thank you! Objectives: Reset the password, and open the Web Control Panel. Later Objectives: Set this back up in there house in working order .
Cannot access the Web Control Panel

What is an Ethernet Server and how did you notice it?
Maybe provide a Photo of the screen.
Who did setup this machine? Maybe better ask that person for help. -

This seems to be not OMV but something else.
Maybe some screenshots would help.

Here is attached photo of my issue. And they person who set this up was her ex. So contact with him is not going to be so easy. He also left the state.

Ok, now it makes more sense.
Usually you use OMV via the WebGUI. Do you know the password for the WebGUI?
Username is "admin".
Can you see the IP of OMV in the router?
Otherwise you can also try to connect to the server with \\media.local\ or \\media\ (not sure right now, might be on Windows the backslash have to be slash so //media.local/Media is the host name of the server.

If nothing works, you can reset the root password (that is the password you would have to enter on the screen you showed in the picture --> first enter "root" and then the password for user "root")
Here is shown how to reset the password of the user root:
https://www.maketecheasier.com/reset-root-password-linux/After that worked, you login to the server withe root/password. Then you enter omv-firstaid. A small tool starts and you can setup the GUI, network interface and so on.

@Bobguyawesome are you new to Linux as well?
You may be better off handing this over to someone with Linux skills. Then, with the above instructions it is a 15 minute job. -

Only thing I could think for him to get help (if he doesn't know anyone else who uses Linux or if he's not comfortable doing this)... is booting an Ubuntu Live flash drive, install Team Viewer on that then find someone remote in and help him.
Personally, I'm just not very comfortable helping someone circumvent the root password, especially when I don't know them, as you never really know if they have some other ulterior motive.

Main problem still consists, I cannot get into the WebGUI the IP is not being seen on my router, nor using "arp -a" on the CMD. The NIC is blinking on the OMV computer, meaning it should be functional. Using "\\media.local\" in various ways does not seem to work either. I really appreciate the help.
Also resetting the root password is in my capability range, just getting there right now, isn't. -

Unfortunately, you can't really diagnose the webUI problem without getting into the system as root. Even if you can get to the webUI, it's very unlikely he left it as the default password.
Just on a whim, have you tried:
username: root
password: openmediavaultTo log in at the console? It's possible he left the root password as default (a lot of people do for some reason)

Have you tried https instead of http?
IP address of the computer cannot be found. The IP address on that computer displayed on the login screen doesn't do anything. and http://Https://media.local/ doesn't do anything for me either.

-
just to be sure: have you tried https://192.168.0.20/

@KM0201 Sadly that is not the case, it is a set password
Actually it just dawned on me, you're working on a computer, not a Pi or other SBC, where usually the root password is set in the image. He'd have set the password during install.
I guess I have SBC on the brain today.

I just did once again, sadly nothing. as far as everything connected to the network correctly, this is infact connected to my main router through LAN. and I am trying to access it through a windows 10 pc through wifi.

trying to access it through a windows 10 pc
Then it should be https:\\192.168.0.20\
EDIT: When you go to the file explorer in W10 and click on Network (bottom on the left side), does the server show up? Or something that look like it?
