OMV 4.X fail to boot after fsarchiver backup restore

  • Hello,

I started using OMV recently and came across the problem with OMV system backup. I made system disk backup using backup plugin. In the forum I found this instruction to restore a backup. After restoring the backup, I tried to reboot from new USB, but the OMV will not boot at all. I used new freshly formatted USB.

After executing dd command my new USB looks like this. Here is the output of fdisk:

    root@sysresccd /root % fdisk -l

Here is an output of fsarchiver archinfo of backup file

but the OMV will not boot at all

Any messages? All of your other output looks ok but we don't have boot messages or fsarchiver restore output.

  • No messages. Just cursor blinking on top left corner. Do I have to restore grub some how? If I have to send some more information, please let me know how.

    Thanks,

Do I have to restore grub some how?

Boot a Debian Stretch iso and pick the repair option. It will have an option to fix grub.

  • Hello,

I think it was an formatting issue. After restoring backup to different USB drive and restoring to another USB drive with previous installed OMV 4.x everything works OK. Only issue I have with previous installed OMV on USB drive is long boot time due to "A start job is running" message ant it sits there for 2 minutes.

    Thanks for prompt reply.
